Dangers of Aquaplaning

I drove through a pretty deep puddle after it rained the other day, and that got me thinking about the dangers of aquaplaning and how a tyre pressure monitor can help prevent it. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the term, it has nothing to do with seaplanes (those are aeroplanes that are capable of landing on water, which is pretty cool but completely irrelevant). Aquaplaning is what happens when your tyres encounter too much water, and suddenly instead of driving on the road, you’re driving on the surface of the water. And motor vehicles aren’t known for being able to drive on water.

See, the way your wheels work is that they grip the road and push off it to move your vehicle. The traction of your tyres is what allows them to do this, and it ensures that you stay in control of your vehicle at all times. Normally, tyre treads do a pretty good job of dispersing the water so the tyres can still stay in contact with the road. But if there’s too much water, then the water gets between your tyres and the road, and you end up skidding and losing control.

So that this doesn’t happen, you need to keep your tyres fully pumped up so the treads and grooves can do their job. And to ensure that your tyres stay properly inflated, a tyre pressure monitoring system from Safe-T-Tyre, with accurate tyre sensors comes in handy.
